Demography

The majority of Sweden's population is foreign, but of Swedish descent. Sweden's population is mainly composed of Scandinavian, Chileans, Iranian, and Eastern Europeans, specifically Yugoslavs, Greeks, and Turks

 

Government

Sweden has a Parliamentary Democracy as its government system. They hold parliamentary elections every four years. However, the head of state, King Carl XVI Gustaf, has no political power.

 

 

 

Culture

Economy

Swden has one of the most stable economies in the world. Its economic activities are tertiary, mainly involving services, banking, and tourism. Wood, water, and minerals are some of Sweden's natural resources, hydroelectric power accounts for half of its energy. Sweden lacks fossil fuels, depending on imports.

 

Human Characteristics

The majority of Sweden's population speaks its official language, Swedish. However, other languages, such as Sami and Finnish, are spoken. The mejority of Swedish are Lutherans, however, other Chrisitan branches, such as Catholicism, Baptistism, and Orthodox are practiced. Other religions practiced are Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism.

Traditions

Sweden has many traditions with its cuisine, etiquette, and holidays. Swedish People have a husmanskost diet, consisting of potatoes, meat, and sauce. In formal events, the guest seated host's left stands to make a speech, thanking for the invitation. Also, Swedish holidays are very family-friendly, involving outdoor activities. 

 

Historical Events

After living as vikings for 723 years, Gustav Vasa was elected as king in 1523 C.E. By the end of his reign, in 1560, Sweden had become a small kingdom. After fighting with other Scandinavian nations for 250 years, the 19th century caused people to migrate to other countries, such as the Americas.  

 

Arts & Literature

Sweden has been greatly known for its literature. Sweden is known best for its children books, like those of Pipi Longstocking, which revolve easy topics through the perspective of children. Popular authors, such as Selma Lagerlöf, August Strindberg, and Astrid Lindgren have won Nobel prizes of literature for their devoted works in this area.
